Do What You Were Created To Do

Lucifer, before his fall from the presence of God had one job and that was “to shine” (Isaiah 14:12-17Luke 10:18).  Lucifer’s name (Hb #1966 helel “a shining one”) comes from “halal” (Hb #1984) which means “shine”.  Halal is one of the Hebrew words that mean “praise”.  That was Lucifer’s job – to praise.  All glory goes to and belongs to God.   God has said that we are not to have any other gods before Him (Exodus 20:3).  Revelation 5:13 provides a glimpse into the very presence of God:

And every created thing which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all things in them, I            heard saying, “To Him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb, be blessing and honor and glory and dominion forever and            ever.”

Likewise, Isaiah 6:1-5 declares:

In the year of King Uzziah’s death I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, lofty and exalted, with the train of His robe filling the            temple. Seraphim stood above Him, each having six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet,        and with two he flew. And one called out to another and said, “Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord of hosts, The whole earth is full of      His glory.”  And the foundations of the thresholds trembled at the voice of him who called out, while the temple was filling          with smoke. Then I said, “Woe is me, for I am ruined!  Because I am a man of unclean lips,  And I live among a people of            unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.”

It is clear that all praise goes to God.  Lucifer was to reflect God’s glory not his own.  He has none.  We have none.  Somewhere he forgot all of that and wanted it for himself.  That is when pride set in and he became foolish in his desire to be exalted over all the other “stars” of God and the Most High God, “Elyon”.

We have to be very humble in our pursuit of purpose.  God has created and enabled us for a particular assignment and purpose.  If we do not keep our eyes on Him and our hearts turned towards Him, we will find ourselves becoming selfish and full of pride.  We will find ourselves doing exactly what Lucifer did.  We will find ourselves desiring all the praise for ourselves instead of reflecting God’s glory.  We can become so skilled in our area of gifting until we lose sight of the purpose for the gift.  The gift is not for your glory and fame, it is for the Lord’s service.

Proverbs 16:18 makes it clear that pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before stumbling.  According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, the word “pride” carries the meaning of an unjustified feeling of being pleased with oneself or with one’s situation or achievements.  Without God we are all nothing.  All knowledge, wisdom, and understanding comes from Him as He is the Creator of everything there is (Proverbs 2:6Psalm 24:1-2).  Let us remember this as we serve.  Do what you were created to do, but do it for the glory of God.
